New Koch Media Label Prime Matter Debuts With 12 Games
Koch Media is mostly known in the game space for its Deep Silver division, but now it has another video game division to add to that. Prime Matter is its newest division it is marking its announcement with a bang by revealing 12 unannounced games. Most are new IP from relatively unknown studios as Payday 3 and the next Painkiller might be the only one people recognize.
Koch said it wanted to start Prime Matter to “expand its label portfolio to meet the ever-growing demands and opportunities across an ever more diverse audience.” Prime Matter will also hold streams like Nintendo Directs as well as interviews with developers.
Payday 3
Starbreeze’s popular co-op heist shooter is back with Payday 3. It seemed to be in line with the other two entries, but Starbreeze will release more details later.
The Next Painkiller Game
Not much is known about the next Painkiller game, but the anticipated shooter sequel is coming to Prime Matter in conjunction with Saber Interactive
Crossfire: Legion
Developer and publisher Smilegate is working with Blackbird Interactive to make Crossfire: Legion, an RTS game. It’s from the makers of Homeworld, Company of Heroes, and Dawn of War and promises futuristic “fast-paced action” and “fully customizable armies.” The game is slated to hit PCs in 2022.
Scars Above
Serbian studio Mad Head Games is creating new IP Scars Above. It stars Kate Ward as she’s trapped on a hostile alien planet and seemed like a mix of the most recent Tomb Raider trilogy, Returnal, and Remnant: From the Ashes. The developers will be showing more about the third-person shooter on June 11 during a livestream.
Codename Final Form (Working Title)
Final Form doesn’t even have a release window, but developer Reikon Games revealed that it is a sci-fi first-person shooter playing in single-player or up to three-player co-op. Players can customize their main character, who is a “humanoid avatar of a sentient spaceship,” as they participate in an “escalating dance of movement and combat.” It seems to one of the faster moving shooters like Titanfall 2 or Doom.
Dolmen
Dolmen is coming from Massive Work Studio in Brazil and is akin to a Soulslike with H.P. Lovecraft and H.R. Giger-esque elements with some sci-fi thrown in. Players can use normal melee attacks as well as firearms, which can be manually aimed like like a traditional over-the-shoulder third-person shooter or through lock-on like a typical Soulslike. This RPG is coming to the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC sometime in 2022.
Gungrave G.O.R.E.
Gungrave G.O.R.E. is still very early — it currently has a 2022 release date — but developer IGGYMOB described it as “anime come to life.” The team wants it to blend Eastern and Western design as players shoot through hordes of enemies in exaggerated anime-like ways. It’s a single-player third-person shooter for PC and consoles.
The Last Oricru
GoldKnights is making The Last Oricru, another Soulslike where old fantasy mixes with sci-fi. There is a heavy emphasis on player choice as missions can play out a number of different ways. And unlike some Soulslikes, The Last Oriscru is playable in co-op. It’s coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2022.
Echoes Of The End (Working Title)
Myrkur Games is the team behind Echoes of the End. Players control Ryn and utilize her abilities to “manipulate and destroy matter.” Echoes of the End is also a “narrative-driven third-person action-adventure set in a unique fantasy world.” The trailer will debut on June 11 and the team will reveal more about this ambitious title.
The Chant (Working Title)
Canadian-based studio Brass Token is developing The Chant, which is a horror game reminiscent of Silent Hill. It takes players to a secluded area with a new cult where players grapple with the cult along with supernatural elements. There’s a combat system, too, which also looked like it was inspired by Silent Hill. The horror title is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2022.
Encased
Encased might be for those who enjoyed the old Fallout games as it is a classic isometric RPG coming to PC in September 2021 from Dark Crystal Games. There will be five disciplines along with the typical slate of RPG features like quests, stats, and dialogue systems. The game is supposed to be out in Q2 2022 on consoles and PC on Unreal Engine 4. Console ports are not out of the question but the team wanted to focus on one version first.
Kings Bounty 2
Kings Bounty 2 has already been announced for consoles and PC for August 24, but it’s under the Prime Matter banner now.
Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord
Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord already came out in Early Access, but now it is coming out of the program and onto PCs and consoles physically as well. There’s no set date on that though.
Kingdom Come Deliverance
This game is already out, but it is now coming to the Switch.
Outward
Outward also already came out but now it is hitting the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
