Mulan Has Apparently Netted $260 Million On Disney+

Mulan has apparently netted $260 million on Disney+

With Tenet and other films struggling at the box office, Disney took a gamble and released Mulan directly to its Disney+ streaming platform where subscribers could purchase the flick for $30. As it turns out, according to Yahoo, the risk has paid off in a big way as the live-action remake has generated profits around $260 million — and that’s on the conservative side.

The reveal came during the company’s latest earnings report in which Disney stated that its streaming platform had “amassed over 60 million global subscribers thus far.” Based on those numbers, 7Park’s data believes 9 million users purchased the film, or 29% of the U.S.’s 30 million users. This is obviously good news for the mouse house who gets to take home all that cash with theaters no longer in the mix; and even better news considering the flick’s tepid worldwide box office haul of just $37 million thus far.

The trade also states that an app known as Sensor Tower, which researches app downloads, reported that Disney+ downloads were up 68% between Friday, September 4 and Sunday, September 6, while consumer spending on the app spiked 193%.

Disney has yet to report any actual numbers, but CFO Christine McCarthy said the company is “Very pleased” with Mulan’s performance so far. Pleased enough to release upcoming flicks such as Black Widow and Soul on its streaming platform?

Mulan features a celebrated international cast led by Liu Yifei (The Forbidden Kingdom, Once Upon a Time) was cast as Hua Mulan following a year-long global casting search.
